Umoja Gardens Project

garden picThe Umoja Garden Project began in May 1997, Currently the garden covers about 1 1/4 acres but we seek to cultivate about three. A variety of fresh fruits and vegetables are grown nine months out of the year. Our largest crop yields are usually yellow squash, okra, hot peppers, green beans, and tomatoes. we also had grown collard greens, cucumbers and corn. Annually, the garden produces enough food to feed 500 families from June thru September, with each family purchasing about 8-10 lbs of produce. We supplement our produce with wholesale purchases made from Georgia farmers at our state farmers market.
